The Fox 5 is an all-terrain stroller that is ideal for parents who love to explore off-road. It has impressive suspension and large wheels that are puncture-proof.
Our test participant Claire was amazed by the clean, easy-to-open packaging and found it to be one of the quickest and most simple pieces of baby equipment to put together. She took it for a spin on some rough terrain and was extremely pleased with its performance.
Seats
Most 3 wheel double buggies are initially single pushchairs. However, some can convert to take the seat of a second person or carrycot using adapters (these are typically more common in tandem buggies). You'll also find that some models let you add a ride-on board for older children who wish to walk but still need some help.
Take a look at the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for city streets. It's easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket that has plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins from birth and will accommodate two car seats or a carrycot and seat. The seats must be facing forward and there is no space to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will require an additional side bag.
Mountain Buggy Duet will be a good option for you If you like off-road driving. It's a side by side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy available. This allows it to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without much trouble. The adjustable handlebar has an integrated handbrake to increase safety and security.
The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight option that is suitable for twins or a baby and toddler. The seats can be reclining in multiple positions with UPF 50plus sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun does not get into your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into an UPPAbaby triple by incorporating UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack" board, which is designed for older children.
The iCandy Orange is one of the most popular double buggies available because of its exceptional comfort. It's an all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension that makes smooth work of bumpy surfaces. It can be used in 30 seating configurations and includes a built-in ride-on board for older kids who prefer walking, as well as a 'cinema' seating mode which raises the back seat to allow for better visibility.
Alternately, the phil&teds dots is a brilliant single buggy that is available from day one that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or 3!) in a variety of configurations. This is especially useful for parents with children in a car seat, because the frame can be fitted with a wedgie for optimum lie-flat positioning, or car seat adapters for many brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a double 3-wheel buggy will determine how easy your child/children and you can push it. A smooth ride is crucial since babies can feel every bump in the road, especially if it's on rough terrain like grass or paths that aren't paved. Some models also have locking front wheels to help in maneuvering and navigating obstacles such as curbs.
Some models come with air-filled tyres which will provide a fantastic all-terrain adventure, but they could be prone to punctures, so make sure you have a spare set in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, designed to withstand bumps and can be less prone to punctures, however, you might feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back should you decide to jog.
The side-by-side buggy is the ideal buggy for city walks. It has a brilliant suspension system that lets you easily and comfortably navigate any terrain. You can also upgrade the duet with our dual kit in order to accommodate two children - all within the same compact footprint!
MFM reviewer Kath test-driven the Urban Glide 2 with her newborn and 3-year-old and found it to be extremely capable on terrain that is difficult to navigate. "It navigated effortlessly across bumpy sidewalks and grass, cobbles, and dirt tracks and was easy for me to navigate around corners and climb up and down kerbs." It's also very comfortable to jog, with the 16" rear wheels and lockable swivel front wheels providing a safe running experience." The Urban Glide 2 is loaded with features too as a large basket with zip-top cover, large padded seat unit and a 50+ UV hood and game changing visibility lights that are simple to use and rechargeable.
Folding
A three-wheeled double buggy can be folded up easily to store it. There are models that fold flat, stand up (as though they were in the shape of a pushchair) and also open to reveal a more umbrella-like folding that has the option of a hand-operated break. In general, the more wheels a buggy has the more comfortable it will be to navigate over rough terrain. This is particularly relevant when the wheels are larger than average. This will give you more stability and make it less likely that your child will fall over or tip over.
A popular option is the iCandy Wave, which can be used from birth with an infant car seat, and it can be converted into a side-byside double buggy when your child is old enough for them to sit next to each one. It is a lightweight option that is easy to push. It also comes with a bumper bar as well as raincover.
Another option is the phil&teds sport, which is future proof because it's a fantastic single buggy right from the start and then adapts to accommodate 2 (or even three wheeler pushchairs!) All of this fits into its compact footprint. It is an innovative 3-wheel design that includes an sling seat that provides greater maneuverability, stability and the ability to pop the kerb.
This is one of the best double buggies to run with your kids. It has a front wheel that can be locked, which can help you maintain control over hills or off-road terrain. It features a big undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and soft suspension for an enjoyable ride.
This is a very lightweight and compact option that folds by one hand, making it perfect for traveling. It's compatible with numerous infant car seats and includes a handy undercarriage bag to store items. It is a bit expensive however, it does have certain distinctive features, like its one-click folding and many extras, including bumper bars or raincovers.
Storage
One thing that many people appreciate about a good 3 wheeler pushchairs wheel double buggy is its storage capabilities. Some models like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket, as well as two zip pockets inside the hood to keep your phone and keys easily accessible. It's also designed to be able to handle a little rough terrain making it a good choice for family walks or all-terrain walks.
Other models such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2 offer plenty of space and flexibility to carry twins or a toddler and a baby (it utilizes their 'PiggyBack' boards to allow this to be done). It's the most compact side-by-side double available. It also comes with impressive technology, including LED visibility lights which are located on both sides of the frame to ensure safety in low-light situations.
For something a little different, the Joie Evalite Duo is a light buggy that can hold twins from birth (it's facing the world and can be used in an upright position). Its clever frame expands widthways to accommodate the additional seat, but it only weighs around 11kg so it's easy to move and lift. It can be used with a car seat, carrycot, or both. This lets you enjoy the best 3 wheel travel system of both worlds.
