The upgrade of an item allows players to increase the gear score of an item to 700 and add a final perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.
Certain items can be upp'd to increase their stats (like perfect broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) while others like weapons do not change significantly after an upgrade item and thus aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to boost their numeric stats such as the chance to crit, attack damage, PvE and damage from PvP. Weapons have a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. In addition there are many weapons with a set bonus that activates when three or more of the same weapon are present on a unit. This bonus can sometimes be greater than the damage that a weapon upgrade can do on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon is based on the rarity of the weapon and its current level. For example the weapon with a +2 rating will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade the gun will increase until it requires a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons can also alter the stats of the base. This is generally a positive factor, but it could also have negative effects. For items that only see use in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB Sorcs, for example) upgrading them could make them unusable unless you have an extremely lucky roll.
Upgrades can be made to armor items to boost their stats. In the case of chests or helms, it will boost its defense base while a belt and gloves will increase their strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it can sometimes reroll down to a lower value.
The upgrade template for a weapon will display the new stats it will gain when upgraded, along with their respective values. This means that a change from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in the weapon gaining an attack damage of 3. However the 3% does not mean that it will be hit for 3 fewer times because it's an absolute number.
A weapon can also be rerolled by pressing the green button, which is accompanied by arrows that circle in the item menu. The item will be rerolled and change its statistics, but not reset the weapon's levels or bind it to account status.
Armor
Making a few improvements to your armor could make a a huge difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE increases in poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, making it easier to navigate through tough terrain. The more defense your character is, the more value you will get from each point of health you have therefore it is important to upgrade your armor as much as you can.
To improve your armor, head to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four in total and each one requires you to complete a unique side-quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the main quest and the corresponding fountains, you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the armor upgrade menu.
The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. You'll require anything between three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the first armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade the next one. The Champion Leathers, as an example can be upgraded to an increase of 5 defense rating, which allows you to remain competitive in frigid conditions with a lot of adversaries. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other side, can be upgraded to +20 defense to ensure you're able to survive a battle with friends.
Note that armor can't be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll need to work on enhancing it to increase physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power when you're a Mage. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades for the armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you wear for the final boss fight and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. Generally, you'll want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to win the game such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer However, it is useful to have a few improvements to the helmets and chest armor that allow you to stealth around certain monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquids that when consumed by the player, provide an immediate effect for a short period of time. There are five kinds of potions that have different effects and durations. Some potions may be upgraded, enhancing their level of effect. You can also increase the effects of certain potions by adding redstone dust and glowstone dust.
Upgrades to potion cost a certain amount of XP. This can be earned by making them using a craft table or in the Alchemist's chest. The upgrade price varies depending on the type of potion used and the Best item upgrader's rarity and Mark Level.
To upgrade a potion, right-click it in your inventory. Then select "Upgrade" from the menu. This opens a GUI in which you can select the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they'll yield when upgraded. Upgrades to potions can be made in batches of up to five at a single time, and the XP that they generate will be added to your current XP total.
Once a poton is upgraded in quality, it will not deteriorate unless you use it again or break the bottle within which it is kept. You can also rename the potion by clicking it in your inventory.
Version 1.7.2 brought a few changes to the mechanics of potions. For instance, splash potions now have a duration of 0:08 (this is not the same as 22.5 seconds displayed on the hover display for the item). The table of potion constructed from four Wood Planks, and two Glass. This allows it to be utilized by players playing Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions aren't compatible with cauldrons like Java Edition. Similarly, using a potion on a full cauldron, it drains the contents and replenishes the bottle.
In addition, there are lingering potions that are brewed using dragon breath and splash potions. In the same way, a lingering potion' effect is extended by adding redstone to it. The potion table is now laid out more in line with the Java Edition, and new potions were introduced, including the potion of leaping and the decomposition potion, as well as turtle master potions.
Trinkets
A trinket could be an ornament that is small and inexpensive or piece of jewelry. It may be a reference to an object or ornament that serves a function but isn't particularly significant like a thimble. In some cultures a trinket can be used to show affection or friendship between family members.
In addition to armor, weapons and potions, players are able to upgrade their trinkets. They can be upgraded by going to an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate amount in currency. Unlike other item upgrades trinkets are able to be exchanged at will without losing their status.
The upgrade vendors are found in major cities and the capital of each zone, and in some cases, dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are bought with tokens, gold or fragments of rare trinkets.
Upgrades to trinkets are an economical alternative to buying an entirely new one. It can be done by the player for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket has the same level of base as the previous trinket but will also have an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.
Trinkets can be upgraded when they are not needed which allows a player to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are a popular alternative to gold.
In general players should upgrade item their top-priority items first. This usually means the Best item upgrader-in-slot items for their class, followed by their secondaries and then other gear items that they won't replace in the near future (for instance an earring or cloak). When deciding which items to upgrade, players should also take into account the preferred statistics of their class. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats to a tank player, then they should upgrade their chest, helm and shoulders.
After they've become unusable trinkets are able to be upgraded to a greater level. The new trinket comes with an additional 1% bonus. However, a re-upgrade will ruin the previous trinket in the event that it is not saved using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an additional salvage tool of higher quality. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, but is still cheaper than purchasing an entirely new trinket.
