Noah Pinsonnault works as a product analyst at Good Housekeeping's Home Care and Cleaning Lab.
He reviews and tests cleaning equipment, with a focus on mopping and robot vacuum combos. These multitaskers are an excellent option for those looking to cross mopping off the to-do list. Some have great mapping and obstacles avoidance. Others even wash and refill mopping pads for a hands-free clean.
The Eufy S1 Pro
This is the model to select if you're looking for a robot vacuum cleaner that also mop. It's smaller than the other options and makes it easier to maneuver in tight spaces or under furniture. It has a 220-degree lidar, which when combined with its 3D Matrix camera system gives it some of the most effective navigation and obstacle avoidance I've ever seen in a robot vacuum. It's got a battery of 4600mAh that can last for up to 170 minutes when mopping and sucking is set to standard mode. (It can run longer on turbo). It can even return to its dock to replenish its battery in mid-clean.
It's extremely fast and does an excellent job of cleaning my two-bedroom apartment. It vacuums carpeted rooms quickly and hardwood floors in the kitchen, living room and hallways with only one motion. Its 8,000pa motor is able to clean dirt hair, pet hair, and even droppings easily. Carpet detection increases power automatically when it encounters rugs and the dual side brushes help pull out debris from corners.
The mopping efficiency is less impressive, but not by a lot. The mop rotates quickly and makes use of 2.2lbs to scrub dirt and stain. I've noticed that the front arms extend out a bit more than other robots, which is helpful to get into tight corners and on baseboards. The same front arms can also be used to collect larger debris like broken toys and books.
The S1 Pro is also one of the quietest robot mop and vacuums I've tested. It doesn't create the same amount of noise when mopping or vacuuming and is much quieter than the Narwal Freo X Ultra or RoboRock S7. The only drawback is that the S1 Pro must use a specific cleaning solution to perform its mopping function and is separate from the vacuum. It is simple to install and works well. However should you purchase this robot vacuum for mopping you must pay attention to this.
The Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo is different from other robot vacuums in its class. It comes with a wide array of features that make it an ideal choice for homeowners who want an extremely efficient, flexible and ad-hoc cleaning machine.
The device comes with a powerful cleaning system that combines LiDAR sensor technology with an RGB camera. This enables it to map out the home and detect furniture and other obstacles. It can then use this information to clean effectively and intelligently. This will ensure a thorough and consistent clean, while also being relatively rapid.
The Q Revo DuoRoller mop pad can reach a variety of surfaces. This includes baseboards, corners and other difficult to reach areas. They also have a stretchy side brush that can be extended to the floor in close proximity to walls and other fixtures. Additionally the mop pads can be cleaned and dried to avoid build-up and lessen the smell.
App-based customization is a different interesting feature. The Q Revo lets you adjust the amount of suction and choose between a back-andforth, or a more random patterns. You can also choose the number of passes, which determines how fast it can move around your home. You can also choose to turn off the side brush to avoid damaging carpets and rugs.
The device is costly, however it has many useful features. It's crucial to remember that it carries regular costs, such as mopping equipment and maintenance. For instance the brushroll has to be replaced after 300 hours or every six to twelve months. The filter should be cleaned after 150 hours, and the mop pad needs to be replaced every three to six months.
The robot vacuum that mops is rated highly on Amazon and offers a wide variety of physical automation features. The robot vacuum also comes with an energy button that doubles as a 'Clean button' as well as a 'Home button to send it back home after cleaning. It also has a multi-functional dock that automatically emptys the dustbin, refills its water tank to mop and washes and dry its mop pads.
The Shark Matrix Plus
If you're a busy professional or someone who wants a cleaner home without spending hours doing chores then the Shark Matrix Plus is a good option. It is a powerful machine with intelligent navigation, and long battery life that makes it easy to keep your home tidy with minimal effort.
The Matrix Plus robot vacuum is a two-in-one mop and vacuum. It is capable of vacuuming as well as mopping. The robot is divided into two parts that include a dry bin as well as a water tank that can be snapped in and out and a mopping unit that is equipped with an elastomer pad. Separate modules for mopping and vacuuming may appear a bit dated but they're a good thing because that you don't need to worry about changing disposable bags or refilling the tank with water.
The Matrix Plus performed well at vacuuming and mopping. Its greatest feature is its precise floorplan map, which it uses when cleaning. This made it easy for the Matrix Plus to navigate around furniture, rugs, and other obstacles. The app lets you create 'No-Go Zones' as well as virtual barriers to prevent certain areas from being cleaned by mopping.
We also discovered that the Matrix Plus did surprisingly well at picking up hair of pets. It was able to capture some of the hair shed by our cats, and even got into some of the corners and crevices of our stairs where other robots struggled. Its noise levels were fairly low and there were nice jingles to signal that it was beginning and Best Robot Vacuum That Mops finishing its work.
Its main drawbacks were its lack of sophistication and the necessity to change out the modules when switching between vacuuming and mopping. The app isn't able to store multiple maps, which could be a hassle when you live in a house with multiple floors. The Matrix Plus is a good option for those who want an intelligent robot that can do both mopping and vacuuming.
The Yiko X1 Omni
The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive of our review. However, it does have distinct features that make it worth looking into. The X1 Omni's main draw is its huge dock that doubles as a charging base and housing for two water tanks, a clean sink, and the 2.5-liter dust bin that is automatically emptys.
The base has several control buttons that allow you to manually start a cleaning task and then recall the robot or use the dock's auto-emptying procedure. Press two of the buttons to switch on the child lock that is a great touch for parents worried about kids tinkering with the vacuum.
Similar to other robotic cleaner and mop vacuums, the X1 Omni uses its camera to detect furniture and obstacles in its path and avoid them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.
The X1 can be prone to get stuck if it is entangled in an obstacle like the power cable that is draped over a rug. It won't function until you manually untangle it. This is a rare event however it was frustrating since the X1 does not have an "stuck status" alert on its app.
The X1 Omni isn't able to automatically switch between mopping and vacuuming mode during a cleaning session. You'll need to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't an issue except for the fact that mopping pads haven't been cleaned and dried between uses and can cause mildew or mold.
On the positive side, the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot, thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who dreamed up its modern and sleek base as well as mopping pad apparatus. It's a big change from the utilitarian all-black bases used by competitors like Roborock and iRobot and a pleasing view in a market that is dominated by bulky, boxy units.
