However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum cleaner and mop robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum mop cleaner robot pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance.
