Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be changed in order to upgrade an item.

Item level is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

The level of an item can help players compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it will be able to deal. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories about how the item upgrading level calculation is carried out. One theory states that the item level is determined by formulas that determine the worth of an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes are used to give items extra damage or other special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by adding a name.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it's a unique item upgrader kit or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. Like base equipment, it must be done per item, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
