The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as dirt detectors) are both positives.
Be sure to inspect your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large debris and clean them as required. Some models will also empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in an additional bin at the bottom. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum cleaner best hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This robot vacuum that mops vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum that vacuums and mops in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
