There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuums that mop we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.
The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
